In addition to the ‘Suggested Activities” material in the booklet we have included some activity sheets that you can use to assess what the children have learnt, and to reinforce the messages that are given in the DVD. You can choose activities to suit your children and photocopy any of these for your use. These can be used as class or individual activities or for homework.

Monty’s Story
The true story of Monty who was found as a puppy dumped on the side of the road and then adopted into a new family. The book highlights the responsibilities of owning a dog and what we need to do to make our dog’s life happy. Real photos are used to illustrate points made. Suitable for ages 5 to 12 years.
Poster Pictures

7 A4 laminated poster pictures that illustrate. 

  • A dog tied up. (Leave it alone).
  • Dogs behind gates at home. (Don’t enter a property that has dogs guarding their territory. Wait until someone can let you in safely or go away).
  • Dog on the back of a truck. (Leave it alone, it is guarding its owner’s property).
  • Dog eating a bone. (Never disturb a dog, even your own dog, when it is eating. Dogs protect their food.
  • Mother dog protecting her puppies. (If you want to cuddle your friend’s puppies, ask an adult. Don’t rush in and pick up a puppy. The mother dog may growl or bite you).
  • Girl poking a dog with a stick. (Never tease or hurt a dog or any animal).
  • Girl with face down at the level of a dog’s mouth. (Don’t play with your own dog down at the dog’s level. Don’t play rough and tumble games with your dog. You may get bitten accidentally.)
Take Home Booklets
These booklets contain all the information covered in the DVD with additional material such as procedures for adopting a dog from an Animal Shelter/Dog Pound, finding a lost dog, registration laws and what to do and who to contact if there is a problem dog in your area. We suggest that if you wish to purchase these then you buy one for each child to take home and share with their families.
Certificates
An A4 size, full colour certificate can also be purchased for each child. This acknowledges that they have taken part in learning important information about caring for dogs and how to keep themselves safe.
