Dog Cartoon
The message in this cartoon should provide an opportunity for discussion. The children could make their own using knowledge gained from the programme. For example, some behaviours (such as into rubbish, wandering, fouling, chasing people and animals) that may result in a dog being picked up by animal control and impounded.
This cartoon is used with kind permission from one of America’s favourite cartoonists "Dan Reynolds". Please visit www.reynoldsunwrapped.com for more information and examples of his great work. |

The Cost of Owning a Dog
This information could be used as a research project. Before and After Views would be a suitable activity. Children could list what they think may be cost items for owning a dog over the years then compare their list with this one. They could find out the actual costs by contacting people in the animal industry by letter, email or phone and then collate all this information. The results of their research may be of interest to the parents in the school community. |

Why do some dogs attack or bite?
First you may wish to ask the children to write a list of what they think may cause a dog to attack or bite. They can then unravel the words in this list and then compare with their own. They can also discuss why each reason may cause a dog to bite, rush at or attack a person or another animal.
Answers: Sleeping, eating, tied up, fear, guarding territory, protecting puppies, lost, teasing, injured, hungry, not cared for. |
